Europe Poultry Feed Market - Segmented by Animal, Ingredients, Supplements, and Country - Growth, Trends, and Forecast (2018 - 2023)
Published: March 18, 2018 Content info: 60 Pages

The market for poultry feed in Europe was USD 1.91 billion in 2017. This market is anticipated to reach USD 2.63 billion by 2023, at a CAGR of 5.41%. Production of compound feed for the poultry industry in the European Union was flat for the year 2017, because avian influenza-affected poultry producers influenced the demand for poultry feed. Poultry feed has now become the leading segment for the European compound feed industry, in spite of poultry meat being way behind pork when measured by per capita consumption in the region. Poultry feed production was able to grow in previous years, outperforming cattle feed production, which was flat, and pig feed production, which was down by 2%. The demand from the poultry industry was the principal driver in pushing overall European feed production 0.4% higher last year to reach 1.55 million tons.

Poland has become Europe's major poultry meat producer and has seen demand for feed growing strongly. According to European statistical agency Eurostat, Poland has accounted nearly 18% of European poultry meat production in 2017 and is expected to produce 2.7 million tons, 50% more than either France or Germany, the bloc's second largest producers, tied at 12% market share. The growth in poultry feed is a positive sign for feed producers, the expansion in the country's poultry industry is expected to continue during the next decade ahead, however, already being 150% self-sufficient in poultry meat, growth is likely to be at slower rates than over previous years. Where production of compound poultry feed is concerned, Poland increased the output of compound poultry feed by 6% in the year 2016, helped to push total production 4.7% higher in the year 2017.

Market Dynamics

The growth of domestic and international quick-service restaurants and widespread poultry diseases, and the demand for quality meat products by consumers has significantly contributed to the rising demand for poultry feed.

Increasing industrial livestock production and technological innovations in the meat processing industry are creating a demand for high-quality meat, thereby driving the market for poultry feed. Increased concern for health and ethical factors has also created opportunities in the industry for organic poultry feed.

Key Developments in the Market.

March 2018: BASF gets the approval from European Union for pig and poultry feed enzyme product which is Natuphos E and it is now available in 28 countries of the EU

February 2018 - ForFarmers N.V. acquired 60% of shares in Tasomix, a large, innovative feed company active mainly in Poland's poultry sector
