Commercial Segment Held the Major Market Share in 2019
The Commercial segment held the largest market share in 2019. The larger share of the segment is primarily due to the high rate of production and delivery of commercial aircraft compared to military aircraft. Though 2019 saw a large dip in commercial aircraft production and deliveries due to the grounding of Boeing 737MAX aircraft, the overall deliveries are expected to come to normalcy in the coming years, thereby propelling the demand for the air data systems for the commercial aircraft. Several commercial airlines have fleet procurement plans with deliveries spanning the forecast period. For instance, in November 2019, Air Arabia, a low-cost carrier based in the UAE, ordered 170 Airbus A320 aircraft worth USD 14 billion. Likewise, in December 2019, the US-based United Airlines ordered 50 Airbus A321XLR aircraft to replace its aging Boeing 757-200s, with plans to use the new aircraft for international service from 2024. Asia-Pacific region is expected to experience a high growth rate during the forecast period. The primary driver for the growth of the market is the increasing procurement of commercial aircraft from countries like China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand among others. The increasing air traffic in the region has forced the commercial airlines to expand their fleet by procuring new generation aircraft. For instance, in October 2019, India's commercial airline IndiGo placed an order of 300 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. In March 2019, Airbus and China Aviation Supplies Holding Company (CAS) signed a General Terms Agreement (GTA) covering the purchase of a total of 300 Airbus aircraft by the Chinese Airlines. Similarly, in February 2019, Vietnamese commercial airline Bamboo airways ordered 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners with an estimated cost of USD 3 billion. On the other hand, the countries in the region are also procuring new military aircraft. China is investing heavily in the development and deployment of advanced fighter aircraft, while also expanding its operational capabilities with respect to AEW&C and bomber aircraft. On the other hand, the current military aircraft procurement plans of India include the MH-60R, AH-64E, and Chinook Helicopters from the US, Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft from Russia, Dassault Rafales from France, and Tejas Light Combat Aircraft developed indigenously by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Additionally, Japan is buying substantial numbers of F-35A fighters to replace its ageing F-4 fleet, while South Korea is focused on adding both indigenous (KF-X) and foreign-made aircraft (F-35A) to its fleet. Thus, the growing procurement of new aircraft is creating a demand for air data systems thereby propelling the growth of the market.

Some of the prominent players in the market are Honeywell International Inc., Collins Aerospace (Raytheon Technologies), Curtiss-Wright Corp., AMETEK, Inc., and Meggitt PLC, among others. These players together accounted for a major share in the air data systems market in 2019. Companies are investing significantly in research and development of air data systems and are launching new products to increase their market share. Collins Aerospace launched the latest generation of SmartProbe Air Data Systems which integrates sensing probes, pressure sensors, and powerful air data computer processing to provide all critical air data parameters, including pitot and static pressure, air, speed, altitude, angle of attack, and angle of sideslip. Likewise, in August 2017, Aeroprobe Corporation added two new Micro Air Data Computers (μADC) to its product line.
