Spain's inflation rate is softening, slowing to 3.8% in December 2023 from 8.3% in 2022, driving less than half of consumers to expect the economy to get worse in the next six months. In 2023, 81.4% of apparel shoppers bought items instore, while 61.1% purchased online, as consumers favoured being able to see and try on items in person before committing. 26.1% purchased secondhand apparel in the past year, however, this was driven by a desire to save money rather than to be more sustainable.
Over half of Spanish apparel shoppers expect their spending on secondhand to remain the same as last year. However, 10.0% expect their spending to increase, while 30.4% anticipate cutting back and 7.4% will not purchase it at all.
