Worldwide Hard Disk Drive Market Shares, 2023: Unprecedented Declines in Cloud HDD Demand Caused by Elevated Inventory Levels

This IDC study reviews the worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) vendor market shares for 2023."Worldwide HDD industry revenue declined significantly for the second consecutive year due primarily to continued elevated inventories at cloud service providers coupled with a prolonged shift of enterprise spending to compute due to emerging artificial intelligence initiatives," according to Ed Burns, research director, Hard Disk Drive and Storage Technologies, IDC. "Revenue market shares did shift, with Western Digital gaining share, while Seagate and Toshiba lost share in 2023."
