The time of flight (ToF) sensors measure the distance by using the time difference until the reflected light is detected by the sensor. The sensors detect distance information of each pixel, creating highly accurate depth map. The light is typically generated by a laser or a LED. There are two main types of ToF. Direct ToF (dToF) involves a simple, direct measurement of the time until reflection is detected. Indirect ToF (iToF) measures distance by collecting reflected light and discerning the phase shift between emitted and reflected light.
Rising demand for integration of TOF technology with drones in enhancing its working in many ways such as it helps the drone to land smoothly, to measure the distance, provide information about navigation and anti-collision, to avoid the obstacle, and to sense the level. Moreover, TOF sensors are also used for object scanning, indoor navigation, measure distance, obstacle avoidance, tracking objects, gesture recognition, augmented reality games, measuring volumes, 3D photography, reactive altimeters, and much more. These factors result in the steady growth of the time of flight sensor market.
The time of flight sensor market is segmented on the basis of product type, application, end user, and region. By product type, the market is divided into indirect ToF imagers and direct ToF imagers. By application, the market is analyzed across AR & VR, LIDAR, machine vision, and others. The end user segmented is divided into automotive, consumer electronics, gaming & entertainment, industrial, and others.
Region-wise, time of flight sensor market trends are analyzed across North America (the U.S., Canada, and Mexico), Europe (UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Russia, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, and rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific (China, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, and rest of Asia-Pacific), and LAMEA (Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa).
The key players operating in the market include, Texas Instruments Incorporated, STMicroelectronics NV, Infineon Technologies AG, Panasonic Corporation, Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, Sharp Corporation, Sony Corporation, Boardcom Inc., OMRON Corporation, and Renesas Electronics.
