The switching power supply market size was valued at US$3,234.56 Million in 2024, expanding at a CAGR of 4.9% from 2025 to 2032.
A switching power supply, or switching mode power supply (SMPS), is an electronic device that changes electrical energy from one voltage level to another by quickly switching it on and off. A switching power supply, on the other hand, quickly turns semiconductor devices (typically MOSFETs or IGBTs) on and off to send energy through inductors or transformers. Standard linear power supplies, on the other hand, control voltage by turning extra energy into heat. Because it works at such a high frequency, the device is much more efficient, smaller, lighter, and produces less heat. SMPS devices can change AC to DC (like in computers and adapters), DC to DC (like in telecom and industrial systems), DC to AC (like in renewable energy and UPS systems), and AC to AC (like in computers and adapters). Many industries use switching power supply, such as consumer electronics, data centers, telecommunications, medical equipment, industrial automation, electric car charging systems, and renewable energy applications.
Switching Power Supply Market- Market Dynamics
Data center & AI infrastructure demand
The switching power supplies market is booming because data centers and AI infrastructure are growing so quickly. There is a greater need for power supplies that are both high-efficiency and high-power-density as cloud computing, hyperscale data centers, and AI workloads develop. This is because they need to be able to run advanced processors, graphics cards, and AI accelerators. AI servers need a lot more power than regular servers. This makes it even more important to have reliable AC-DC and DC-DC switching power sources. Operators also have to work harder to save money and energy. This means they have to adopt newer SMPS systems that are better at keeping the temperature stable and transferring power more effectively. More people desire inexpensive, scalable, and digitally controlled switching power supplies now that hyperscale facilities are moving to modular and rack-level power architectures. The switching power supply sector is growing because more and more people across the world are spending money on AI infrastructure and cloud capacity. This is because there is a demand for reliable and efficient power conversion systems.
For instance, India's tech dreams are being realized at a scale the world has not seen before. At the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Mukesh Ambani, CEO of Reliance Industries, announced the company's plans to build the country's AI infrastructure over the next seven years with a sum of 110 billion dollars. The huge promise is just one in an orchestrated rush by Indian companies and the government to pour over 200 billion dollars in the next decade into AI infrastructure investment, with a focus on democratizing AI for all and access for the masses.
Type Insights
The AC/DC captures a significant share. The increasing demand for data centers, AI infrastructure, consumer electronics, industrial automation, and Electric Vehicle charging will be the key growth drivers for this segment. AC/DC switching power supply transforms the alternating current supply from the grid into a stabilized direct current supply and is thus a fundamental technology for servers, telecom base stations, medical equipment, and various consumer electronics. The revenue growth is strongly driven by the evolution of hyperscale and AI data centers, where high-efficiency front-end AC/DC power supplies are needed to support the growing rack power density.
Switching Power Supply Market- Geographical Insights
The Asia Pacific region is growing significantly. The region's prospects are beneficial because of rapid industrialization, rising demand for consumer electronics, and more money being put into data centers and green energy-producing infrastructure across the region. China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asian countries are all expanding their manufacturing of electronics, telecom, and electric cars. These all need switching power supplies that are more efficient and have a higher power density. Also, as 5G networks become more common and hundreds of new hyperscale and AI-focused data centers are built in the area, there is a growing need for power conversion systems that are both high-value and high-efficiency. The front-end power supply solutions industry is also being influenced by governments' efforts to make energy cleaner, expand electrification, and strengthen domestic manufacturing. For example, "Make in India" is one such effort.
Switching Power Supply Market- Country Insights
The Chinese switching power supplies market has experienced significant recent revenue growth due to numerous macro, structural, and demand factors. As a large manufacturing nation for electronics and electrical equipment, internal consumption of switching power supplies for consumer electronics, industrial automation, telecom, and computing hardware consumables supports sustained unit sales growth. A fast-developing domestic data center, cloud, and AI services market will create strong demand for high-efficiency AC/DC and DC/DC switching power conversion to meet reliability and power requirements. Furthermore, the ongoing phase of electrification and integration of renewable energy resources (solar, grid, and energy infrastructure investments) will see increased demand for power and electronic components, as common systems for this industry segment rely heavily on switching power supplies (such as solar inverters, batteries, and automotive charge points).
The switching power supplies market is relatively concentrated, with a small handful of global specialist power supplies companies and large electronics conglomerates operating across all power output categories (standard AC/DC bricks, modular DC/DC converters, and large data center supplies) and all levels of service (custom design, local production, and certification). Industry analysis has identified a small core layer of power supply equipment manufacturers, based exclusively on specialist suppliers, alongside large electronics companies that expand into specialist power supplies. Modern markets are competitive on efficiency, power density, and time to market for GaN/SiC-enabled offerings. Delta Electronics is one of the dominant suppliers in this market, due to its scale and vertical integration (various types of power supply components, including power modules, and entire systems are designed and manufactured in-house and sold through its own distribution channels), and consistent expansion of manufacturing capacity for data center supplies and EV charger components.
In September 2025, Infineon Technologies AG introduced a 12-kW reference design for high-performance power supply units (PSUs), specifically designed for AI data centers and server applications. The reference design offers high efficiency and high-power density, and leverages all relevant semiconductor materials: silicon (Si), silicon carbide (SiC), and gallium nitride (GaN). It is aimed at research and development engineers, hardware designers, and developers of power electronics systems.
In November 2024, Tektronix announced a new lineup of breakthrough power devices set to accelerate innovation in industries demanding greater power capacity and efficiency. The new TICP Series IsoVu(TM) isolated current probes are the world's first to utilize RF isolation, delivering exceptional precision and safety when measuring fast-changing current across both low- and high-voltage systems. The EA-PSB 20000 Triple series is a 3-channel, bidirectional power supply and electronic load with energy recovery that delivers higher test coverage, density, and capacity across multiple channels within a single device.
