Singapore has been an early mover in AI governance, launching one of the world's first national AI strategies in 2019 and updating it in 2023 through NAIS 2.0. The revised strategy outlines a plan to more than triple the country's AI workforce within three to five years, accelerate AI creation and adoption among enterprises, strengthen national research priorities, as well as position Singapore as a global leader in responsible AI development.

The government is heavily investing in related emerging technologies, including quantum computing, blockchain, and edge computing, all of which demand high-performance infrastructure and contribute to the push for sustainable data center growth.

Improvement in Connectivity VIA Submarine Cables

Singapore serves as one of the world's largest submarine cable hubs, with 32 active cables and 12 being under development; these hubs link Southeast Asia to the US, Europe, and other global regions. Its strategic location, liberalized telecom market, and strong regulatory framework, led by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), have enabled the country to attract major investments from hyperscalers such as Google, Meta, and Amazon.
