Intraoperative imaging is used in surgical procedures such as neuro and orthopedic surgeries, allowing surgeons to image the patient during surgery. Innovative and technologically advanced intraoperative imaging devices combined with surgical navigation systems are available in the market, which improve spinal surgeries and others by reducing X-ray exposure of the patients and staff in the operating room. There are different types of intraoperative technologies on the basis of technology such as Intraoperative Ultrasonography, Intraoperative Fluorescence Imaging, Intraoperative Augmented Reality, Intraoperative Optical Coherence Tomography, and Ex Vivo Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). With the help of intraoperative imaging, surgeons can view the bony anatomy and soft tissues in the spine which helps them take clinical decisions during the surgery and offer critical post-implant evaluation. Intraoperative imaging (IOI) is performed to guide the delineation and localization of regions of surgical interest. In the recent past, advancements were made in Computed Tomography (CT) scanners to improve its speed, resolution, and patient comfort. Single-slice CT scanner, which uses X-ray source and single detector, has been replaced with multi-slice CT scan, due to the slow performance and low image quality of single-slice CT scanners. Multi-slice CT scanners have multiple number of slices, which enhance the performance and image quality of these CT scanners.

Market Dynamics

Increasing adoption of inorganic strategies by key players in the market such as acquisitions is expected to drive the market growth over the forecast period. For instance, in September 2021, General Electric, one of the leading medical technology, pharmaceutical diagnostics, and digital solutions companies, announced the acquisition of BK Medical, a company that provides active imaging products, to expand ultrasound portfolio into surgical visualization. This acquisition will accelerate GE Healthcare's growth in precision health and intraoperative imaging.
