The transmission pump is the heart of the transmission system, pumping hydraulic fluid through the system. The transmission pump which is referred to as a gear pump has two gears. One gear is powered by the torque convertor hub which engages the inside gear of the pump. The other gear in the pump is the outside gear which is driven by the inside gear. When these two gears run and rotate together, they create a suction effect that moves the transmission fluid. A transmission oil pump is used to circulate oil and maintain volumetric pressure in automatic transmission cars. A pump helps build hydraulic pressure and allow other components in the transmission to function properly. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for transmission pumps worldwide. Various advancements in transmission technologies along with the growing demand for fuel-efficient and high-performance vehicles has been driving the automakers to increasingly adopt automatic transmissions, thereby augmenting the demand for transmission pumps in the process. Furthermore, the stringent regulations regarding vehicle emissions have also led OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to focus on developing advanced automatic transmission systems for smoother driving experience as well as better fuel economy.
Rowing demand for fuel-efficient vehicles, increasing demand for automatic vehicles, increasing number of passenger vehicles, rapid growth of the automotive industry, and increasing demand for transmission pumps are some major factors expected to propel the growth of the automotive transmission pump market during the forecast period.
For instance, In 2022, passenger vehicle sales in India witnessed an increase of 26.7% in FY23. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicle (PV) sales reached around 334,247 units in May 2023, registering a 13.54% rise over the same month last year. This in turn is expected to increase demand for transmission pumps in India.
However, growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) is expected to hamper growth of the global automotive transmission pump market.
