Assistive reproductive technology (ART) is an infertility treatment procedure. In this procedure, the sperm and eggs are taken out of the body and oocyte fertilization is done under laboratory environment. The fertilization process carried outside the body is known as In vitro fertilization (IVF). There are mainly two type of IVF procedures such IVF with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and IVF without Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
Increase in infertility rates over the past years has supported growth of global assistive reproductive technologies market growth. For instance, according to the European society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) in 2018, more than 8 million babies, were born from IVF procedure. This rising number of IVF procedures is expected to boost the global assistive reproductive technology market growth.
Rising prevalence of infertility cases has led to an increase in demand for ART treatment techniques. Furthermore, higher rate of successful pregnancies and births resulting from ART cycles using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos is expected to facilitate the market growth. For instance, in 2016, as per IVF birth rate statistics, around 6.5 million babies were born using in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Moreover, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around 1.6 percent of babies born in the United States each year are conceived through assisted reproductive technology (ART).
ART cycles, are carried out using various procedures such as fresh donor, frozen donor, fresh nondonor, frozen nondonor and embryo/egg banking. The choice of procedures also affects growth of the assistive reproductive technology market, depending upon the type of technology procedures are also chosen. In 2015, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 26% fresh nondonor and 42% frozen nondonor procedures were performed in the U.S. These factors are expected to propel the global assistive reproductive technology market growth.
Restraints of the Global Assistive Reproductive Technology Market
One of the major restraints of this market is the issue of legal parental rights, and few concern of people such as, whose names will be there on birth certificate and who will have parental responsibility. Such factors may refrain parents to make use of assistive reproductive technologies.
