A DNA microarray or chip is a semiconductor surface on which sequences of many varied genes are bonded to probes. DNA microarrays are used to genotype different areas of a genome or to assess the expression levels of several genes at once. The method is applicable to areas such as clinical diagnostics, agriculture, environmental management, and other fields. A microarray or biochip is a lab-oriented microscope slide that is usually made of glass, a silicon chip, or a nylon membrane. It is a 2D array (sometimes 3D) whose surface is provided with thousands of minute pores in defined positions.
Market Dynamics
Microarrays leverage biological information with bioinformatics knowledge to bring new insights to many biological systems and have been applied most intensively to the field of cancer research. A microarray, therefore, measures the levels of mRNA transcripts in a sample, and since thousands of gene fragments can be located on an array, it can provide a genome-wide view of gene expression in cancer. Thus, the increasing prevalence of cancer is expected to foster market growth over the forecast period. For instance, In February 2021, according to the report published by Globocan, a worldwide database of cancer incidence and mortality rates, 19.3 million new cancer cases were reported worldwide in 2020. Female breast cancer had surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, with an estimated 2.3 million new cases globally in 2020, followed by lung, colorectal, prostate, and stomach cancers.
Furthermore, According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 1,603,844 new cancer cases and 602,347 people who died of cancer in the U.S. in 2020
