Ink is the vehicle through which the inked image is transferred onto the print media. Latex ink is a water-based ink with the pigments encapsulated within polymers (or resin - a man-made synthetic, not from a rubber tree where the term latex is derived). The carrier fluid penetrates the media and binds to it through evaporation. This process leaves behind the color in a durable coating. Latex prints are durable and can be exposed to sunlight, extreme weather conditions or harsh environments without losing quality, unlike conventional solvent prints that require lamination for durability. As a result, PSPs save time on secondary processes such as lamination and can reduce their overall costs.
