Propane is a colorless, odorless, flammable gas with a chemical formula of C3H8. Propane is an important energy source and chemical raw material, widely used in household, industrial, agricultural and other fields. Propane is the main component of liquefied petroleum gas. According to CRI analysis, propane can be used as fuel and raw material. At the same time, propane is also an important chemical raw material that can be used to produce chemical products such as ethylene and propylene.
The world's major propane producing countries include the United States, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, etc. India is one of the world's major propane consumer markets, and the downstream market of Indian propane is mainly concentrated in the industrial and civilian fields.
According to CRI analysis, with the development of India's economy and the growth of its population, the consumption of Indian propane is showing an upward trend. Especially in the fields of chemicals, rubber, medicine, agriculture, etc., propane is an important raw material. In addition, India's automobile industry has developed rapidly in recent years, and the demand for propane has also increased significantly. In the field of fuel, India's demand for propane is also growing.
India's propane production mainly relies on domestic petrochemical companies, such as Indian Oil Corporation. However, due to the limited domestic production of propane in India, it cannot fully meet market demand, so India still needs to import a large amount of propane. According to CRI data, India's propane imports reached US$6.467 billion in 2024, an increase of about 10.5% year-on-year. With the continued development of India's economy and population growth, it is expected that the demand for propane in India's market will continue to grow in the next few years.
According to CRI analysis, the Middle East is the main source of propane imports for India. The main sources of propane imports for India from 2021 to 2024 are the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The United Arab Emirates is India's largest source of propane imports, accounting for about 33% of the entire import market. The main companies exporting this product to India from 2021 to 2024 are energy production and trading companies in Middle Eastern countries. The main importers of propane in India from 2021 to 2024 are mainly local Indian biochemical companies and trading companies.
In general, with the growth of India's population and the continuous development of manufacturing industries such as automobiles, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, the demand for propane in India is continuing to expand. According to CRI's forecast, due to India's limited local production capacity, India's propane imports will continue to grow in the next few years. CRI recommends that global energy production and trading companies should conduct research on the Indian market as soon as possible and prepare for the layout of the Indian market.
