Market Overview

Foley Catheter Market is expected to grow at a high CAGR of 6.2% during the forecasting period (2022-2029).

An indwelling (Foley) catheter is a closed sterile system with a retention balloon and a catheter inserted either through the urethra or suprapubically to allow for bladder drainage. Foley catheters are one of the most common urinary catheters used for draining urine from the bladder. These thin, sterile, flexible tubes are used for various chronic and acute conditions, including urinary incontinence and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). These catheters are recommended only for short-term use, for less than 30 days.

Market Dynamics

The global foley catheters market is growing owing to the rising prevalence of urological diseases, such as urinary retention, benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), urinary incontinence, and prostate cancer.

The increasing elderly patient population globally is expected to drive market growth.

Urinary incontinence is a common condition in the general population, particularly the older adult population, which reduces the quality of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers persons 65 or older to be older adults, while the United Nations considers those 60 years or older to be older adults. The world's population is quickly aging, with 703 million individuals over the age of 65 presently, and this figure is expected to rise to 1.5 billion by 2050. Urine incontinence is a prevalent disorder in the general population, particularly among older people, and it lowers the quality of life. Ten to twenty percent of all women and 77% of women in nursing homes have urinary incontinence.

Moreover, Urinary incontinence has been observed in much research among older women, with an overall frequency of 14% in US studies. The prevalence of urine incontinence has been estimated to be 37% in research conducted in European countries. In research conducted across Asia, the prevalence of urine incontinence in older persons was 13% in Asia and 45.3% in Africa. The prevalence of urinary incontinence was reported to be 52% in a study conducted in Middle Eastern countries. Therefore, it has increased the demand for foley catheters worldwide. Thus, from the above statements, the market is expected to drive in the forecast period.

Complications associated with the foley catheter are expected to get hampered in the forecast period.

The procedure is painful. It entails inserting and removing insufficiently lubricated catheters, causing friction between the urethral walls and the device's surface. These may not be unpleasant at first, but continued usage may cause urethral constriction, resulting in bleeding and infection. Extra caution is essential to avoid the negative effects of UTIs and CAUTIs. Moreover, unfavorable tax policies, unfavorable reimbursement practices in developing nations, and increased product failures and recalls are the factors the market is expected to hamper in the forecast period.

Industry Analysis

The foley catheter market provides in-depth analysis of the market based on various industry factors such as unmet needs, pricing analysis, supply chain analysis, regulatory analysis etc.

Segment Analysis

Latex segment is expected to hold the largest market share in the foley catheter market.

The latex segment accounted for the largest market share in 2021. The segment is benefiting because catheters made of pure latex are not expensive. These catheters have hydrogel, silicone, and Teflon coatings that make them soft, lubricious, reliable, and highly flexible; they provide increased patient safety with less encrustation and irritation. The ability of coated latex catheters to minimize bacterial adhesion and encrustation is predicted to increase demand shortly. For instance, Cardinal Health manufactures the Dover Hydrogel Coated Latex Foley Catheter to make insertion easier and to protect the patient's urethra. Therefore, it has increased the demand for latex-based foley catheters. Thus, from the above statements, the market segment accounted for the largest market share in the forecast period.
