  • Amidst the increasing adoption of mobile devices, the growing popularity of e-commerce, and the need for contactless payments, alternative solutions such as FacePay, VoicePay, and ChatPay are rising in popularity. Several major banks and fintech companies have introduced biometric payment options, allowing customers to make transactions using their face or voice as authentication. For instance, OCB introduced FacePay in its digital banking app OCB OMNI in June 2022, allowing customers to make payments by scanning their faces. In October 2022, TPBank launched ChatPay, a method of transferring money on a messaging or chatting platform, and VoicePay, a payment solution that allows users to pay by voice, through its mobile app.
  • To facilitate non-cash payments in the country, in June 2021 the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS), in partnership with 14 banks, launched the universal QR code VietQR and the Napas247 Quick Money Transfer service. Users with an account at participating banks can easily create a personal QR code on their bank's mobile banking app or at the VietQR.net website. SMEs and online sellers can create a VietQR code to receive money from the sender in a simple and convenient manner. Additionally, the Napas247 Quick Money Transfer service allows customers to transfer money from their bank account to another bank account in the NAPAS network by scanning the QR code of the receiver.
  • Alternative payments are gaining prominence in the country, with a number of international and domestic payment methods being offered. Google Wallet launched in the country in November 2022, allowing users to make in-store, online, and in-app payments. In addition to payments, Google Wallet enables users to store cards, tickets, passes, keys, and IDs.
