This report provides construction outlook data for 31 countries and deep dive analysis of the prospects for the global data center construction outlook in 16 major countries to 2030.
Across the 31 key data center construction markets covered in our forecast, data center construction output in real terms is estimated at $150.8B in 2025, rising to $173.8B in 2026 and $318.6B by 2030. This implies annual growth of around 15.3% in 2026 and a 2026-2030 CAGR of approximately 16.4%, making data centers one of the fastest growing construction markets globally. The scale of growth reflects the convergence of AI workloads, cloud migration, digital sovereignty, enterprise digitization and hyperscale expansion, all of which are translating into demand for larger, denser and more power-intensive facilities.
The IEA expects global data center electricity consumption to roughly double to around 945 TWh by 2030, with consumption growing by about 15% per year from 2024 to 2030, more than four times faster than electricity demand growth from other sectors. The IEA also forecasts global electricity demand to grow by 3.6% annually from 2026 to 2030, supported partly by rising consumption from data centers.
