This IDC Market Perspective looks at the current state of the supply chain of some of the Datacenter IT infrastructure vendors operating in EMEA and suggests possible strategies to improve the resilience of those supply chains.Given geopolitical unrest around the world, a rise in catastrophic natural events, and overall uncertainty growing, supply chains have become bottlenecks for the IT industry in case of disruption.Vendors have applied multiple strategies to increase the resilience of their supply chains. IDC reached out to some server and storage vendors in EMEA to see what strategies they are using or looking to use in the foreseeable future. This IDC Market Perspective is part of a two-part series. This part focuses on the initial manufacturing, assembly, and shipping of new equipment. The second part focuses on the sunsetting of the deployed equipment, either by refurbishing and repurposing aged equipment or recycling it."Ideally, every single component and every single route should have redundancy. To supply a component, vendors must have at least a redundant path in an N+1 strategy," said Luis Fernandes, senior research manager at IDC. "By maintaining a single supplier or a single route for any given component, vendors are setting themselves up to fail, eventually causing more harm to their revenue in the long run - with canceled and delayed orders as well as tarnished brand reputations."
