Worldwide Hard Disk Drive 4Q25 Preliminary Shipment Results

This IDC Market Perspective provides a preliminary unit shipment range for worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) units by HDD drive class and estimated supplier market share for 4Q25."HDD shipments are expected to increase again in 4Q25 as demand continues to grow from cloud service providers as a result of cloud datacenter growth, replacement drive purchases of higher-capacity drives, and data storage growth related to AI workloads," according to Ed Burns, research director, Worldwide Hard Disk Drive and Storage Technologies, IDC. "HDD suppliers are steadily increasing exabyte output capabilities, but supply growth is not currently keeping pace with demand growth, causing market tightness to continue for 2026 and likely 2027."
