The aviation sector is governed by stringent regulations that stipulate the permissible materials and other aspects of aircraft construction. The fire suppression systems segment is projected to show remarkable growth during the forecast period. The growth is attributed to the increasing number of aircraft deliveries and rising demand for advanced fire protection systems. All new installations of fire extinguishing systems for engines and cargo compartments in aircraft use Halon 1301, and some new installations of handheld extinguishers still use Halon 1211. At present, the halon requirements of civil aviation and other industries, like oil and gas, military, etc., are being met by recycling agents being withdrawn from applications in other industries and decommissioned aircraft.

Furthermore, in 2021, after many efforts from NATA and others, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) agreed to adopt changes to NFPA 409, the standard on aircraft hangars. It is the primary standard for aircraft fire protection in the US and elsewhere. For instance, in February 2022, Collins Aerospace entered into a long-term Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) agreement with Singapore Airlines and Scoot to support the Singapore Airlines Group fleet of 55 Boeing 787 aircraft. Under its FlightSense program, the company will provide the airlines with full lifecycle support for high-performance pool access, maintenance services, and reliability upgrades. Under the contract, the company would support products like fire suppression systems, air management systems, sensors and lighting systems, and others.

North America Dominates the Market During the Forecast Period

North America is expected to continue its market share domination during the forecast period. The growth is due to the presence of a well-financed aviation industry, the highest aircraft fleet, and rising spending on the aviation sector. The aerospace industry in the region is mature and strongly supported by a robust aviation base. Higher air traffic resulted in the procurement of several aircraft by regional and international airline operators in the region. Boeing, one of the major aircraft OEMs based in the US, generates a huge demand for aircraft fire protection systems. As the OEMs receive new orders for aircraft, the demand is simultaneously generated for commercial aircraft fire protection systems, as the FAA mandates the installation of evacuation systems in all active aircraft. In contrast, a similarly advanced fire suppression system is required to contain the spread of the fire and ensure minimal collateral damage to other systems of the aircraft. Some of the key players in the market are Meggitt (Parker Hannifin Corporation), RTX Corporation, Siemens AG, FFE Ltd, and Advanced Aircraft Extinguishers Ltd. A substantial market share is dominated by Meggitt (Parker Hannifin Corporation) and RTX Corporation, as they provide fire safety solutions for the majority of commercial aircraft and business jets. RTX Corporation provides fire protection systems to Airbus A220, Irkut MC-21-300, Airbus A380, Boeing B767, COMAC C919, Gulfstream G280, Gulfstream G650, etc. In contrast, Meggitt PLC provides for aircraft programs like Airbus A320, Airbus A330, Airbus A350 XWB, Airbus A380, Airbus A400M, Boeing B737, Boeing B777, Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, Embraer E-Jet 170 series, Embraer E-Jet 190 series, and Embraer ERJ-145 series, among others.

Generally, the players in the market receive long-term contracts, and this allows the companies to include constant profits if there is demand for aircraft in the aviation industry. For instance, in May 2021, Safran Electrical & Power and Pyroalliance signed an agreement to work together to develop a system to guard against the risk of fire in electric propulsion systems for aircraft.
