The industrial edge AI gateway market reached USD 2,470.0 million in 2025 and is estimated at USD 2,915.0 million in 2026. Revenue is forecast to climb to USD 7,869.0 million by 2032, a CAGR of 18.0% from 2026 to 2032.
Most spending still goes to rugged devices mounted beside machines, in cabinets, and at remote sites. The faster-growing value arrives after installation, through model updates, security patches, and fleet management. A gateway becomes a multi-year commitment rather than a one-time equipment purchase.
Large organizations are setting the pace. In 2025, 20.0% of EU enterprises with 10 or more employees used AI technologies, up from 13.5% a year earlier, and the share among large enterprises reached 55.03%, according to Eurostat. Production use turns that interest into device orders. A model that inspects parts or flags an intrusion has to return its result within the machine cycle, often on a plant network isolated from the internet.
Key Insights
Hardware accounted for 77% of revenue in 2025, yet software and platforms is the segment to watch, with a projected CAGR of 24.0% from 2026 to 2032. Patching, model management, and remote fleet control keep generating work long after the device ships.
Wired Ethernet and fieldbus held 60% of 2025 revenue because plants already run on those networks. Cellular (4G/5G) links will grow faster, at a CAGR of 24.5%, as pipelines, wind farms, and rail corridors sit outside plant cabling.
GPU and SoC designs captured 46% of 2025 revenue. NPU, ASIC and FPGA designs are forecast to grow at a CAGR of 26.0%, and power limits explain part of the pull. A 2025 study found NPU-based platforms drew 35% to 70% less power than GPUs while matching or exceeding throughput in many inference tasks, although the result came from server hardware, not gateways.
Discrete manufacturing led end-use demand with a 35% share in 2025, supported by an operational stock of 4,664,000 industrial robots in 2024. Transportation and logistics should expand fastest, at a CAGR of 21.0%.
North America held the largest regional share at 36% in 2025 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 15.5%. With U.S. manufacturing construction spending 21.2% below its July 2025 level, retrofits of existing lines should drive most of that demand.
Asia-Pacific held 29% of 2025 revenue and is the fastest-growing region, at a CAGR of 21.5%. Asia took 74% of the 542,000 industrial robots installed worldwide in 2024. China accounted for 12.5% of global revenue, while India is the fastest-growing country at a CAGR of 26.0%, fueled by new electronics capacity.
Utilities offer a channel outside the factory. Global grid investment rose by USD 45 billion in 2025 to nearly USD 450 billion, and the International Energy Agency projects a further 17% rise in 2026. Digital technologies could defer USD 1.8 trillion of grid investment to 2050, which favors analyzing condition data close to the asset.
Regulation is setting firm dates. The EU Machinery Regulation applies from January 20, 2027, and brings a notified body into the design cycle for learning models that perform safety functions. Since September 11, 2026, the EU Cyber Resilience Act has required an early warning of an actively exploited vulnerability within 24 hours.
The industry is fragmented. Diversified automation groups, industrial computing specialists, networking and IT vendors, and connectivity specialists each control a different layer, so no single type of company sets terms. Certification to IEC 62443-4-2 and multi-year support duties favor suppliers with established security teams.
Recent moves show where suppliers are heading. Schneider Electric agreed in June 2026 to acquire an industrial data and AI software company for USD 3.1 billion in cash. Digi International bought an edge application infrastructure company for USD 50 million in January 2026. Siemens made its industrial AI software suite generally available in April 2026, and NVIDIA announced an industrial edge AI platform with functional safety in January 2026.
