The global market for Electric Two-Wheelers (E2W) was estimated to be worth US$ 18906 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 25141 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 4.0% during the forecast period 2025-2031.
This report provides a comprehensive assessment of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on Electric Two-Wheelers (E2W) cross-border industrial footprints, capital allocation patterns, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.
In 2024, the global production of electric two-wheeled vehicles (E2W) will be 69 million units, with an overall average price range of around US$274 per unit.
Electric two-wheelers (E2W) are generally divided into three categories: electric bicycles, electric light motorcycles and electric motorcycles based on differences in performance, design and usage scenarios.
Among them, electric bicycles are close to traditional riding scenes and are forced to retain the human-powered riding function. They look similar to ordinary bicycles, have low plastic coverage and the main frame is mostly exposed. The battery is mostly placed under the footrest or behind the seat. The motor power usually does not exceed 400W and the vehicle weight is <=55kg. They are suitable for short-distance travel and do not require a motorcycle license.
Electric Mopeds are between the two. They have no human-powered riding function, the plastic coverage rate is significantly improved, the frame is less exposed and the shape is close to that of traditional light motorcycles. The motor power is mostly 400W-800W, the battery capacity is larger (20Ah-30Ah), the cruising range is 60km-120km, the loading capacity is better than that of electric bicycles, and the vehicle weight is 60kg-100kg.
Electric motorcycles are positioned as high-performance, purely electric-driven and have no riding function. They have the highest plastic coverage rate, the body is almost completely covered by integrated plastic parts, and the shape is highly similar to fuel motorcycles. The motor power is generally >=800W (some exceed 2000W), the battery capacity is 30Ah-50Ah, and the cruising range is easily exceeded. 100km (some reach over 200km), the vehicle weighs 100kg-150kg, with stronger load-bearing and power output, suitable for medium and long-distance travel.
Driven by global urbanization and sustainability initiatives, the electric two-wheeler market is experiencing explosive growth. McKinsey predicts that by 2030, electric two-wheelers (E2Ws) will account for 30% of global two-wheeled travel. As a core driver of the global market, China's sales have climbed annually, securing a dominant position globally. Meanwhile, exports continue to expand, with ASEAN, Europe, India, and the US all experiencing double-digit annual growth.
In these markets, electric two-wheelers (E2Ws) have evolved from a "means of transportation" to a "smart mobility ecosystem." Policy initiatives, the platform economy (food delivery, e-commerce, and ride-sharing), and smart battery swapping technologies are driving industry transformation. Future market growth depends not only on improved product performance but also on industry chain collaboration and ecosystem development. From battery technology innovation to improved charging infrastructure, from intelligent applications to the exploration of circular economy models, a comprehensive service system covering production, use, and recycling is being built.
