The global market for C Resin was estimated to be worth US$ 3506 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 5647 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 6.8% during the forecast period 2025-2031.
This report provides a comprehensive assessment of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on C Resin cross-border industrial footprints, capital allocation patterns, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.
C Resin (Hydrocarbon Resin or Petroleum Resin) is a C5/C9 aromatic hydrocarbon used in industrial applications. It has a tackifying effect and is suitable for use in paint, printing ink, adhesives, rubber and other areas where tackiness is required. It is a kind of thermal plasticizing hydrocarbon resin produced by C5, C9 fraction, by-products of petroleum cracking, through pretreatment, polymerization and distillation. It is not a high polymer but a low polymer with the molecular weight between 300-3000. Featured by acid value, easy mutual solubilities, resistant to water, resistant to ethanol and chemicals. It has the chemical stabilizing property to acid and alkaline, viscosity adjusting and thermal stabilizing, Generally, the petroleum resins are not used independently, but have to be used together with other kinds of resins as promoters, adjusting agents and modifiers in hot-melt adhesive, pressure-sensitive adhesive, hot melt road marking paint, rubber tires and so on.
In 2024, the global production of C resin exceeded 2 million tons, with an average ex-factory price of approximately $1,700 per ton.
In Asia-Pacific, the largest market for hydrocarbon resins, rapid industrialization, urbanization, and growing demand from packaging, construction, and automotive sectors are driving strong growth. China, in particular, has become both the largest producer and consumer, supported by a robust petrochemical base and expanding adhesive and rubber industries. India and Southeast Asia are also witnessing increasing consumption as manufacturing shifts and infrastructure development accelerate.
In Europe, demand is stable but comparatively slower-growing. Environmental regulations and the push for more sustainable materials have influenced the market, encouraging resin producers to optimize formulations and explore bio-based alternatives. Nonetheless, the strong automotive and tire industries in Germany, France, and Italy continue to ensure a steady consumption base.
In North America, the United States dominates the market with a well-established petrochemical industry and strong demand from packaging, road construction, and automotive sectors. However, competition from Asia-Pacific suppliers has increased, pressuring domestic producers to focus on higher-value and specialty resin grades.
In Latin America, Brazil and Mexico are the key growth drivers, fueled by infrastructure projects and expanding packaging industries. However, market development is somewhat constrained by economic fluctuations and limited local production capacity, leading to reliance on imports.
In the Middle East and Africa, abundant raw material availability, particularly in Gulf countries, provides opportunities for local resin production. Growing construction activities and industrial diversification initiatives in Saudi Arabia and the UAE are expected to strengthen regional demand, while Africa remains in an emerging stage with gradually increasing consumption.
