Amid the steady growth of global curing, sterilization and purification applications, TrendForce projects that the UV LED market value will increase to USD 215 million in 2026, with an annual growth rate of over 10%.

In curing, exposure, tanning, solar simulator, medical, and life science markets, demand continues to increase steadily. This growth urges manufacturers such as HPLighting, Seoul Viosys, Violumas, and UVT to expand into customized design services. Through integrated optical solutions, these companies can boost UV-A LED revenue and stabilize product prices.

On the other hand, with improved UV-C LED optical power, sterilization and purification products have shifted their application areas from consumer home appliances to customizable industrial and commercial solutions for surface sterilization and flowing water sterilization to stabilize pricing. According to TrendForce's survey, suppliers with greater than or equal to 100mW UV-C LED single-chip package capabilities include ams OSRAM, Nichia, Violumas, NKFG, UVT, and LITEON. Among them, ams OSRAM, Nichia, Violumas, NKFG, and UVT are known for both high optical power and product reliability, achieving an R70 lifetime of 10,000 hours or more. Single-chip package benefits from smaller form factors, enhanced current spreading, uniform radiation patterns, and low thermal design costs, making it a preferred choice among end-market customers.

Moreover, to meet end-market demand, Toyoda Gosei plans to release new single-chip UV-C LED products featuring an optical power of at least 100mW. Research and experiment findings from the University of Siena, Italy, suggest that Silanna's 235nm far UV-C LED technology achieves excellent germicidal effects, effectively inactivating 99.9%-99.99% of E. coli, S. aureus, and P. aeruginosa. Furthermore, in short-range (10cm) surface sterilization conditions, this wavelength is proven to efficiently inactivate H5N1 avian influenza virus, resulting in up to 99.9999% inactivation, further highlighting UV-C LED technology's enormous potential in biosafety and infection control applications.

Currently, ams OSRAM and Nichia have successfully introduced their own products to industrial and commercial flowing water sterilization and purification projects, while continuing the replacement of traditional mercury lamps, whose material costs are on the rise. Moreover, ams OSRAM is planning to launch 200mW UV-C LEDs in 4Q26 to meet end-market demand. Overall, TrendForce notes that UV LEDs are expected to accelerate the replacement of mercury lamps as suppliers are making technological progress. Curing, exposure, flowing water sterilization, or large-scale surface sterilization projects are also likely to contribute to growth.
