Cell counting is a technique used for determining physical properties of cells such as concentration, density, and viability. Cell counting method is adopted by doctors also, so as to know the condition of the patient. They use this method for estimating the concentration of white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, etc. and the amount of it tells the health status of patients. Cells counting can be done either manually through hemocytometer where in the volumetric grid of it is used for estimating the concentration of cells, or by plating the microbes into petri dish containing growth medium. Automated devices are also available such as coulter counter (based on conduction of electricity), flow cytometry, which is based on the fluorescent and optical characteristics of the cell, microscopes consisting of image analyzer, etc.
Increasing applications of cell counting, active involvement of the manufacturers, and developing of new products is expected to boost the global cell counting devices market growth. For instance, in February 2019, ThermoFisher Scientific introduced a product, EVOS M7000 microscope. It has a high-end camera, which offers greater detailing in the images leading to easy diagnosis of diseases. It has fluorescent and chromogenic optics and is fully automated. It also allows live cell imaging and contains Celleste image analysis software. In September 2015, Olympus Corporation launched a product, Cell counter model R1. It is a portable automated cell counter. It supports efficient cell culturing by its software algorithm. It allows storage of analysis data and it is easy to operate.
Furthermore, higher prevalence of diseases such as vector-borne diseases is expected to augment the market growth of global cell counting devices. According to World Health Organization (WHO), around 700,000 people die worldwide annually due to vector-borne diseases. According to the same source, around 96 million of people are infected with dengue every year in 128 countries. Hence, increase in prevalence of diseases would in turn increase the demand for cell counting devices for diagnosis and thereby, supporting the global cell counting devices market growth.
