According to CSIL, the US lighting market exceeded US$22 billion in 2025 and remains strongly influenced by demand conditions across different applications. Activity levels varied across segments, reflecting differences in construction output, renovation activity and investment decisions throughout the building sector. The outlook remains challenging for 2026, while signs of improvement are expected in 2027.
The North American lighting industry is undergoing a significant reconfiguration. Companies are redesigning their supply chains to improve resilience, optimize costs and reduce tariff exposure. While continuing to invest in domestic production for strategic, advanced and higher-value products, they are gradually shifting high-volume manufacturing to Mexico for the North American market and to Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia and Vietnam, for global markets.
The US lighting trade landscape is reflecting weaker market conditions and is also becoming increasingly diversified. Canada and Mexico remain the main destinations for US-manufactured lighting products. At the same time, Mexico has become a major supplier to the US market, overtaking China as the leading source of lighting imports, while Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia are gaining importance.
LED-based fixtures account for more than 90% of the total market. The transition is almost complete in the professional segment and is approaching completion in the residential segment following the phase-out of conventional lighting.
Connected technologies continue to gain ground in the United States. Sales have grown at an average annual double-digit rate since 2020, with connected lighting particularly relevant in professional and outdoor applications.
The ten largest companies account for over 50% of the US lighting fixtures market. In recent years, M&A transactions have mainly focused on acquiring specialist manufacturing capabilities, increasing market share, expanding product portfolios and integrating connected systems and software. A smaller share of acquisitions has involved distribution, including installers, wholesalers and retailers.
