Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite will remain the leading pay-TV services delivery platform in Italy over the forecast period despite the decline in its subscriptions from 4.9 million in 2022 to 4.8 million in 2027. IPTV subscriptions will grow from 1.4 million in 2022 to 2.1 million in 2027 with improving broadband network coverage and operators offering IPTV services bundled with fixed broadband plans.
4G is the leading mobile technology with a 70.3% share of total mobile subscriptions in 2022. Its subscription share, however, will decline to 36.2% in 2027 as subscribers migrate to 5G services.
DSL lines will continue to be the leading fixed broadband technology in Italy over the forecast period despite its share of overall broadband lines declining from 69.5% in 2022 to 45.7% in 2027. Subscription share of fiber lines, in contrast, will grow from 20.8% in 2022 to 42.9% in 2027, driven by ongoing investments by the government and operators in fiber-optic network expansion.
