The global tunnel construction projects pipeline, as tracked by GlobalData, currently stands at $1.48 trillion, comprising projects at all stages of development from announcement to execution. The total pipeline value reflects the overall value of projects that are either solely tunnel based projects or that have tunnels as an integral part of the work. The project pipeline includes tunneling works across a multitude of sectors, primarily road and railway development, water, and sewerage works, as well as major tunneling associated with power and oil and gas developments. By region, Western Europe leads investment in tunnel infrastructure with a pipeline valued at $448.9 billion - equivalent to 30.1% of the global value of tunnel projects - followed by North-East Asia with a project pipeline valuing $284.4 billion. Of the pipeline, projects currently in the pre-planning (announcement and study) stage have a value of $108.8 billion and those in planning have a value of $191.1 billion. Comparatively, projects currently in the pre-execution stages (design, tender and award) total $167.4 billion, while those in the execution stage account for more than half (68.6%) of pipeline value, at a value of $1 trillion
