Report Overview:

Antimicrobial resistance is rising faster than new antibiotics arrive, and diagnostics that find resistance quickly are moving to the centre of hospital care. This report estimates the global antimicrobial resistance diagnostics market at $3,460 million in 2026, growing 9.3% a year to $5,400 million in 2031 and adding $1,940 million of new annual spending. Culture and phenotypic susceptibility testing remain the base of the market but fall from 51.5% to 42.0% of it, while rapid phenotypic AST grows fastest, at 24.4% a year from $190.3 million to $567.0 million, followed by NGS and metagenomics at 23.7%. Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) is the fastest-growing pathogen group, at 14.1% a year, and bloodstream infection and sepsis is the largest infection site, rising from $986.1 million to $1,674.0 million.

The past year reshaped the industry. Bruker bought the former Accelerate Diagnostics rapid-AST business, T2 Biosystems liquidated, OpGen left diagnostics as CapForce, and Waters took over BD's microbiology business, including Phoenix, BACTEC and Kiestra. The FDA cleared expanded rapid AST menus from Q-linea and bioMerieux and the first susceptibility tests for the new antibiotic gepotidacin, and the World Health Assembly adopted the Global Action Plan on AMR for 2026-2036. The report covers 23 chapters, 68 tables and 54 figures, with forecasts by pathogen, technology, infection site, purpose and product for 14 countries and regions, and profiles of 40 companies.
