Chemical mechanical planarization is the process step that keeps modern chips buildable: after each layer is deposited, the wafer surface must be polished flat to atomic tolerances before the next layer goes on, and the polishing consumables - slurries of engineered abrasive particles and the polyurethane pads that carry them - are consumed continuously, making CMP one of the most reliable recurring-revenue franchises in semiconductor materials. The supplier geography of that franchise is changing. Fujifilm, long a slurry specialist, has assembled a six-site production network spanning Japan, Taiwan, Arizona, and Belgium, with the Belgian plant beginning operation in spring 2026. In Japan, Fujimi holds specialist depth in ceria and colloidal-silica slurries, Resonac competes in slurries and post-CMP cleans, AGC supplies ceria abrasives, and Fujibo supplies pads to Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese fabs. In China, Anji Microelectronics and Hubei Dinglong are building slurry and pad positions behind the domestic fab build-out, where localization mandates make them default candidates.
