The global market for Cyclodextrin was estimated to be worth US$ 355 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 529 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 5.7% during the forecast period 2025-2031.
This report provides a comprehensive assessment of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on Cyclodextrin cross-border industrial footprints, capital allocation patterns, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.
Cyclodextrins are a group of structurally related natural products formed during bacterial digestion of cellulose. These cyclic oligosaccharides consist of (a-1,4)-linked a-D-glucopyranose units and contain a somewhat lipophilic central cavity and a hydrophilic outer surface. Due to the chair conformation of the glucopyranose units, the cyclodextrins are shaped like a truncated cone rather than perfect cylinders. The hydroxyl functions are orientated to the cone exterior with the primary hydroxyl groups of the sugar residues at the narrow edge of the cone and the secondary hydroxyl groups at the wider edge. The central cavity is lined by the skeletal carbons and ethereal oxygens of the glucose residues, which gives it a lipophilic character. The polarity of the cavity has been estimated to be similar to that of an aqueous ethanolic solution.
The Cyclodextrin industry concentration is relatively high, and high-end products mainly from Japan and Western European. Asia-Pacific is the largest player in the world, the CD is firstly produced in Japan. With the Europe and China players start large production, Japanese domestic production is shrinking.
China is the largest producer now, there were about 50 manufactures in China can product CDs, but only 20+ players put into production now, less than 10 players have the capacity above 1000 MTPA. Most of them are located in Shandong, Jiangsu and Henan province.
Cyclodextrin is mainly classified into the following types: Beta-cyclodextrin, Alpha-cyclodextrin, Gamma-cyclodextrin and CD Derivatives. Beta-cyclodextrin is the most widely used type which took up about 98.46% of the total sales.
Cyclodextrin have wide range of applications, such as Food & Drinks, Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetic, etc. And Food & Drinks was the most widely used area which took up about 74.3% of the global total.
Pharma use is the third largest application area, followed by Food & Beverage and Cosmetic segments.
