Power-to-gas or P2G is a process that converts surplus renewable energy into hydrogen gas with the use of PEM electrolysis technology. P2G is a good way to move to a natural gas mix that is greener. Anaerobic digestion processes, in which microbes are converted to organic materials to create fuels, are likewise supported by P2G. The technique, also known as methanation, significantly increases the rates of conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) to biomethane (from 60% to 95%) when hydrogen is added.
Market Dynamics:
Factors such as efficient use of global renewable energy resources and integrated management of gas and power network are expected to drive growth of the global power-to-gas market over the forecast period. Moreover, the promising use of hydrogen in mobility applications is likely to produce growth opportunities in the global power-to-gas market over the forecast period.
However, the market growth is likely to be hampered due to factors such as availability of low-cost batteries and loss of energy in power-to-gas systems.
