This report provides a detailed analysis of the prospects for the global construction industry up to 2030.
Global construction output is set to return to growth in 2026, although the recovery is expected to remain shallow and uneven across different regions. GlobalData forecasts output to expand by 0.8% in real terms, following a 0.3% contraction in 2025. However, the aggregate figure understates the underlying momentum across most markets, as excluding China from total output figures would lead to a 3.1% expansion in 2026. As a result, these figures indicate a concentrated weakness in the single largest construction market, rather than reflecting a broad-based global downturn. Although many countries will rebound this year, the recovery is taking shape against a challenging backdrop, tapering output growth. Persistent cost pressures and a succession of geopolitical shocks, including the ongoing wars in the Middle East and Ukraine and the crisis in Venezuela, have contributed to sustained energy-price volatility and elevated freight costs.
Despite the more positive outlook, several of the weakest markets in 2026 will be among the largest. For example, North-East Asia is the only region set to contract in 2026, declining by 1.2%, as China's prolonged property downturn continues to suppress private sector building investment. Due to its size, the output decline in China will be large enough to restrict Asia-Pacific growth to 0.5% in 2026, even as South Asia grows 6.0% and South-East Asia 5.0%.
